A life of service to his Country.

Cary Pigman is a residency trained and board certified Emergency Medicine physician practicing at Florida Hospital Heartland Division in Sebring, Wauchula, and Lake Placid. He was born and raised in rural Ohio. He earned a BS in Chemistry from Edgecliff College of Xavier University in Cincinnati in 1980. He then earned his MD at The Ohio State University in 1983. His residency training in Emergency Medicine was at Georgetown University and George Washington University in Washington DC. Cary has lived in Highlands County since 1995.

He began his medical career as a doctor in the US Navy attached to infantry units of the 2nd Marine Division. He left active duty in 1989 and remained in the reserves until 2000. During the Iraqi surge of 2009 he was asked to return to active reserve status in the US Army. In 2010 he was commissioned a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Army Reserve.

In 2011 he was mobilized to active duty serving in Mosul and later Kirkuk, Iraq. In 2012 he served at Camp Creompaz, Guatemala in operation Beyond the Horizons, a humanitarian mission. In 2013 he served his third deployment at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait.

From the emergency room, to an overseas military hospital, to the Florida House,
my top priority is the protection of Florida's families.

In addition to his duties in the emergency department, he is Medical Director of Hardee County Fire Rescue. He is a member of the American Medical Association, Florida College of Emergency Physicians, Florida Farm Bureau, National Rifle Association, Rotary Club of Highlands County, and The American Legion in Lake Placid.

Cary maintains a small vineyard on his small farm. He has 3 adult children living in Florida, Louisiana, and California. He enjoys clay shooting and all motorsports having road raced motorcycles and sports cars.

Protecting those who cannot protect themselves.

In November 2012, Cary Pigman was elected to the Florida House of Representatives to represent the people of District 55 which encompasses Glades, Highlands, Okeechobee, and part of St. Lucie County. He was reelected subsequently. 

During his tenure as a state representative, he championed legislative efforts to reduce Medicaid fraud, expand access to primary health care in Florida, and ensure Florida’s $108 billion agriculture industry remains an important part of our economy and our quality of life.

For his efforts, he has been recognized by the Florida Chamber of Commerce as a Distinguished Advocate, by Florida Health Care Association as a Champion for the Elderly, by Florida Right to Life as a Life Advocate, by The American Conservative Union as a Defender of Liberty, and by Florida Farm Bureau as a Champion of Agriculture. 

Cary currently serves as Chairman of the Health Quality Subcommittee and is a member of the Government Accountability Committee, Health & Human Services Committee, Health Care Appropriations Subcommittee, Natural Resources & Public Lands Subcommittee, and the Oversight, Transparency & Administration Subcommittee.
